Butterbeers and Forbidden Journeys

Living in Florida definitely has it's perks. Laying on the beaches, tropical scenery, flip flops year round and no snow to shovel, just to name a few. But even more exciting than that are Florida’s theme parks! I have been to most of the parks numerous times. (And yes I do have a favorite, the Magic Kingdom at Disney World!) But yesterday I got the chance to go to a land I have never been before…The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Harry Potter is located in Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios Orlando. You might be shocked to read this, but I have never seen the Harry Potter movies nor read the books. Yes you read that correctly, NEVER. It’s just something I haven't done. When Harry Potter fanatics learn this, they instantly look at me with horror and shock, like I'm from another planet! I have thought about renting the movies, but I just never seem to get around to it. I admit though, once I heard The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was opening, my curiosity for this craze had me secretly wanting to go. The cool thing is my fiancé filmed many of the commercials for Universal and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. (He is a freelance union camera assistant!)  I’ve gotten to hear a lot of cool things about the park from him and my sister who has been FIVE times. But it wasn’t until yesterday that I finally went to go see it for myself! I was accompanied by my mother, sister, aunt, uncle and cousin. We had a great time! Luckily it wasn’t extremely hot, and walking around the park wasn’t too hard on me! (I have some medical stuff I'll discuss another time.) Even for someone like me who is not familiar with Harry Potter, I still found it enjoyable. If you get the opportunity to go, I recommend walking in the different shops, trying the delicious butterbeer and riding the rides. But be warned, if you get motion sickness easily Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey will definitely get you feeling like your butterbeer if going to come back up the same way it went down! It did for my poor sister at least!

At the entrance of Hogsmeade you see the Hogswart Express.

This was my favorite shop! ;)
